Ballintubber Abbey, Co Mayo.

The only church in Ireland founded by an Irish king that is still in regular use.

This nearby attraction is a wonderful church that dates back 800 years ago. With a proud tradition of continuously holding mass since its creation even when for 236 years the abbey was without a roof.  Ballintubber Abbey is an important site in Mayo and 'the Abbey that refused to die' can be visited with a guide who will tell you the tale of the rich history of the abbey.

The abbey has several modern outdoor attractions, including a very modern abstract Way of the Cross, an underground permanent Crib, and a Rosary Way.  When you visit Ballintubber you can enjoy the holistic Ballintubber Abbey, the Celtic Furrow Visitor Centre, the Ballintubber Abbey Retreat Experience and The Tóchar Phádraig.
